No More Candy Please!
I am beginning to think the Valentine’s Day candy collection is almost as bad as the 8 pound bag of trick or treat candy each of my children brought home on Halloween night (thankfully we had the wagon). My husband carted most of the candy to work on November 3rd and I am sure he will do it again on February 16th.
This year though I am going to do something a little different for my children. I am going to start a new tradition with my children: for the love of books. My Valentine card is going to be one of my favorite children’s books. Of course, on the dedication page, I will write a little love note to them.
Here are my top choices of great books some are oldies, but goodies and others are new to the scene:
The Pigeon Books by Mo Willems
You look ridiculous said the rhinoceros to the hippopotamus by Bernard Waber
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Judy and Ron Barrett
We are going on a bear hunt by Michael Rosen
Click Clack Moo Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewis
Where the Sidewalk Ends: the Poems and Drawing of Shel Silverstein by Shel Silverstein
Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by John Archambault
The Red, Ripe Strawberry, The Big, Hungry Bear and the Little Mouse by Audrey Wood
Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary
